Case Study: EJ (Visian ICL)
Severe Nearsightedness
EJ is a 46 year old gentleman, a busy salesman, husband and father. He wore contact lenses for his extreme myopia (nearsightedness) with pretty good success. But he was blind without correction and had been interested in refractive surgery for a number of years. He strongly disliked being dependent on his contacts, and hated the vision with glasses. He had been told in the past that his prescription was too large for any surgical procedure.
Indeed, his right eye was -13.00-1.50x75 and the left -15.50-1.00x125. These are large prescriptions! He was an excellent candidate for the ICL (implantable contact lens.) He had ICLs put in each eye, three weeks apart.
We aimed for a little monovision in his dominant eye to mimic the strategy of his contacts.
He is now 20/20 in his left eye and 20/25 in his right (monovision) eye. He wear no correction for near or distance and thinks he sees better than with his contacts!
