LaserVue Procedures
What We Do
Although we most commonly perform LASIK, not everyone is a good candidate for this procedure. We are also experts in PRK, Intraocular Contact Lenses, Refractive Lens Exchange, and Custom Cataract Surgery.
LASIK and PRK both correct vision by reshaping the cornea using the Allegretto Laser. LASIK incorporates a flap created by a second laser, the Intralase. PRK has no flap. Instead the laser correction is applied directly to the front surface of the eye. PRK has a longer recovery but excellent results.
Intraocular Contact Lenses are used to treat people with high degrees of nearsightedness. They can correct extreme nearsightedness, and have the advantage of being removable.
Refractive Lens Exchange utilizes technology developed for cataract surgery to correct vision. The natural lens is removed and replaced with a prescription implant. Options include multifocal implants, which give good distance and near vision, and monofocal implants set for either best distance vision or monovision.
Special testing determines whether astigmatism treatment is done simultaneously.
Custom Cataract Surgery is similar to Refractive Lens Exchange. The difference is that a cloudy lens (the cataract) is removed prior to insertion of the prescription implant. It also includes astigmatism treatment and the choice of premium implants.
