LASIK – The vision correction is present immediately. However, there is a hazy quality that begins to recede in a few hours. Although many patients have no post-op discomfort, some are scratchy and irritated for a few hours. You must be checked the next day. Expect vision to be about 90% recovered by then: good, but fuzzy around the edges. The vision sharpens over the next few days.
PRK – Can be similar to LASIK but usually is more scratchy and irritated. The healing phase usually lasts 2-4 days, after which the vision improves.
Refractive Lens Exchange, Implantable Contact Lens, Custom Cataract Surgery – Expect the vision to be improved immediately, though there is a variable amount of haziness expected. Some patients go home with a patch, so cannot tell how they are seeing until the next day at your first postop exam. Scratchiness and irritability are normal, variable, and resolve quickly in most cases.
