Pre-op

The pre-op is simply an extremely thorough eye exam. This will be done on a day prior to your procedure. We will repeat some of the testing done on the consult, if needed. In addition, you will have a careful refraction (glasses measuring test.)

Your eyes will be examined by a slit lamp microscope and with fundoscopy. We will be looking to asses your ocular health and uncover any conditions which might either affect your results or require treatment prior to your refractive procedure. Examples include cataracts, glaucoma, retinal problems, and macular degeneration.

As contact lenses can affect many of these tests, and we want the best possible data, we require you to refrain from contact lens wear prior to your pre-op. The length of your “contact lens vacation” will depend on the type of contacts you wear, wear pattern, and our assessment of how your eyes have tolerated the lenses.

You will again have a chance to ask questions. By this time you should have read your informed consent and have an idea of surgery day logistics.
